bauenstudio is a Milwaukee based design and research firm led by Marc Roehrle and Mo Zell. We believe in an 'architecture of response' where architecture responds to conditions of physical, cultural, spiritual and intellectual that are specific to each site. We embrace design that works simultaneously at a macro and micro scale thus our projects range from furniture to architecture and our sites range from the human body to the city. This range of project types offer us the opportunity to advocate how to engage space through the physical environment.

bauenstudio has been recognized with several awards including a BSA Honor Award, a BSLA Merit Award, an ACSA Faculty Design Award, and a feature in the April 2008 issue of Architecture Record as an emerging practice to watch. Most recently bauenstudio was advanced as a semi-finalist in the Washington Monument Grounds Ideas competition and won honorable mention in the Chicago Architecture Club Burnham Prize Competition.
